Should I drive 50 miles to go look at this winch?

This will be of very little help, as I'm no expert, but.... I didn't think MileMarkers were that high? I mean I know it's a 12000, but it's still a MileMarker. It's probably worth the $450, but not what he claims he paid. My Ramsey Patriot 9500 was less than $900 brand new ($879 I think). I personally would try to stick with Ramsey or Warn.
That said, if it's not going to be used all that often, I'd consider it and try to negotiate down. Nobody starts with their bottom dollar, but I doubt he'd take less than $350-$400.

Disclaimer: This advice is coming from a college kid with way too much money in a truck that mainly holds the driveway down.

Alright guys thanks! I don't know if I will be able to come across a used warn 12000# winch in my price range. I guess I could go smaller.

You can buy basically the same winch for $600 or less brand new, so no way I would pay $450.

i paid $984 shipped for this 16,500# superwinch from amazon.com back in june...y do u want/need a 12,000# winch??? how much does ur rig weigh???
i only got this bcuz of the price and i like overkill...couldve gotten a 10,000# but none were cheaper than this...oh n i'd say no to the mm...like stated above, keep lookin...theres plenty warns out there...

I like overkill too! My buddy got his 4-5K rig stuck in a pond and we couldn't get it out with 3 trucks pulling. We had to use a CAT bulldozer. I figure if I am going to buy a winch I might as well go big if the price is right. Kinda like you did.

you can find warn 8274's all day on eghey used for 350 to 450.... 95% of what I've heard about MM is bad...

personally, I went hidden, so I specifacally was looking for an xd9000... $400 used...

thats 2 warn 8274's w/snatch blocks tryin to pull me out...it took a BIG track hoe to get me out...there was a telephone pole bout 20' n front to my left as u can c n tha pic below...if i'd had my winch on my truck, with the 2 snatch blocks i have, i'd have gotten out w/o any problems...this was my reason for overkill...

Alright I just found a Warn 9.5ti that says it has been used 6 times for $850. It seems like a good winch. What should I offer him?

Is superwinch a decent brand? I don't want to spend a ton of money right now so if I can't find one used I may wait. Winter time is my slow time at work and I have plenty of money in the bank but the economy is gay and I am going to have to pay a chit ton of taxes in the spring. I only pay once a year...YIKES! I just changed business formats and I am not sure what to expect. Thanks for the help guys!

BTW: I was thinking of offering the 9.5 guy like $500 and see what he said...

i have a buddy w/a jeep whos had his superwinch for over ten years now with zero problems...has pulled my blazer out buried to the frame several times...cant hurt to offer...i would jus to c what he says...

Superwinch has one of the worst reputations in the industry and that has reflected my experience with them. Milemarker is right behind them.

But everyone has their own opinion on everything :)
