I was looking at a CUCV truck that a guy at work has. It still has the 1-ton axles under it and the complete drive train. It doesn't run and the body is shot. It does have some salvagable parts. Anyhow he's asking 1200 for it. I was looking online and it seems that the dana 60 aren't selling for as much, maybe because of the economy. Just wandering if it is worth it and what could I expect for scrap price for the rest of the truck?

x2 on that. in a worst case senario, you can sell the axles for that same price, talk him down to $1000 for it and take it home.

Offered him 1000 and had the cash today, but no dice. He's pretty firm at the 1200.

hell, even at 1200, id say its worth it.

what exactly is wrong with the engine? just wont start? or has a rod through the side of the block?

heck you may be able to get it runnin. its amazing how many times people think the motor shot when its something so simple...grab that thing even for 1200

not sure. He bought it for the axles, I personally don't like those diesels anyways. I figure might be able to sell for 100-200 for the parts. I don't think it has a thrown rod but really didn't pay that much attention to it since I wouldn't use it. One of the altenators was missing and the radiator, but it would probaly spin over.

Do it. A good set of one tons without anything attached to it is worth that. take the axles and if absolutely everything else is trash, take the remaining parts to the wrecking yard. Ours here pays 400 for a junk car just in scrap metal.

Id only be hesitant if I had nowhere to put it. I can see that rig getting towed in my neck of the woods....

Detroit locked 14FF rear with 4.56's and a Dana 60 front with 4.56's...and maybe even a front limited slip...yep, GRAB IT.

That's a great deal for $1,200. Buy it, dismantle it, and haul off the rest for scrap iron. Scrap price is making a comeback.

Alright so I got it. A friend of mine drives a wrecker and he is going to pick it up for me and bring it to the shop. Now I just have to make the rest of the truck dissapear. I might keep the trans and xcase. I think some of the parts are usable but most will be heading to the scrap yard.

where is lugoff????

i might be interested in scavanging some parts off of it before you scrap it if youre somewhere nearby.

Sorry for the late reply. It is in South Carolina. I was planning on selling what I thought might be usable on ebay or locally, to try to make a little back. If there is anything in particular you are wanting let me know. I am planning on keeping a few things for my blazer, but if it is something I am not using I can help you out. Virginia is a pretty good drive. How are those rear brakes coming.
