Should I install 1971 Blazer Body on 1987 Blazer frame?

How much work to put at 71 Blazer on an 87 Blazer? I have a 1987 with 1999 vortec 5.3/4L60E which runs great. I have a chance to buy a 1971 body and frame and was wondering how much trouble to put the 1971 body on the 1987 frame. I know the overall length is different but I was wondering about the wheel base. Would I be better off putting my 1987 running gear on the 1971 frame?

The 1987 has been chopped to make a 1973 full convertible but I have a strong desire for a 1969-1972 Blazer- am I crazy to bite off this much work?

I would imagine the body mounts are going to be in different positions,,,,, do you still have my hardtop??

Small world. Someone gave me another top and I gave yours to a local guy with a 1975.

There are quite a few differences between the two. One is the drop center frame of the newer frames that started in 77 IIRC. So mounting the older body onto a newer frame would end up with a big gap between the frame and body in the center. Then you have to consider the length difference that would require an extension of the 87 Blazer frame to accomodate the longer body.

i was gona do a similar swap. the wheel base is different. it would be alot easier to swap in your motor and trans to the 71 frame. then all you would have to do is shorten your drive shafts. also they said something bout cutting part of the firewall out and putting it on the 71. check with the guys on the 69-72 forum they have all the info you would need.

No acctually it started mid year 77 thats why it gets so damn confusing in the 77 model year

trust me i learn so much new stuff on here everyday. just shows me how little i know bout blazers, and after having 4 blazers and 3 trucks you would think i knew alot.
