Hey Guys,
I am pulling the axles out of the truck this weekend to get some gears installed and while I have them out, I was considering reinforcing them.

What is your guys experience on doing that? Is it something I might as well do while I have them out? I have heard of people welding the axle tubes and trussing the 12 bolt and I know the jeep guys reinforces the C's on the D44s and possibly truss them as well. Is it worth the time and effort? If I do truss the D44 does it have to be trussed on the bottom?

I have decided not to put 3/4 ton axles in cause I don't intend to go above 35 inch tires so I want to make these axles as solid as possible.

Yea, I was reading up and cause the center section is cast iron, I would need a tig anyway and I only have a mig. I think I will gusset the c,s though just to be safe. Good to know they are pretty strong and I have no jumping planned in the future.

From my understanding the reinforced C's are just on the newer Jeeps, while they are Dana 44's they are signficantly different than what an old Chevy had. Never heard of anybody having issues on the Chevy D44 regarding bending C's unless they were seriously abusing them (i.e. jumping the truck a lot).

Well that's good to know. Ballistic fab has a set of C gussets for Dana 44's that look way different from the normal JK ones that I see out there. Looks like they are specifically for our older Dana 44's. I e-mailed them to ask and see what they think.

If no reinforcement is necessary at all, that makes my life easy :)
