I have a 2006 GMC 2500HD 4WD Duramax pickup truck. I don't presently pull anything with it, just a daily driver, but plan to pull a 28' fifth wheel camper trailer later on.

Should I switch to a synthetic engine oil for better protection, longetivity, etc.? Is there any gain in fuel mileage or extended oil change mileage periods with the synthetic oil? Which brand and type synthetic engine oil is a good one for the money? At what mileage should synthetic oil and filter be changed?

Thanks for your experienced opinions and info, Dave

i would switch, it reduces friction so yes it is going to make the engine more efficient. You can run the oil longer in between changes but you still should change the filter every 3000 miles. When i switch a car to synthetic i usually change the filter after the first 300 miles because all the sludge and crap gets loosened by the oil and accumulates in the filter
