Here is the dilema... I have a 1970 chevelle. The engine is a 427 talldeck bbc with a weiand suprcharger. The car does consistant 11.3s @ 127mph.Not to bad for a car that is still sees street time. Now here is the thing, I dont hit up the track to much anymore , main reason being when i got some free time i go 4-wheelin /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif.So ive been pondering doin a heart transplant and swapping my supercharged big block in to my blazer. I think i will have alot more fun with it in truck than in the car. Now i dont want to get rid of my chevelle,i love that thing 2 ... Maybe i will drop in a sweet small block in the 350 hp range so that i can cruise it again like back when i 1st got it.what do ya'll think, should i do the bigblock swap or sould i leave the rocket alone and just build a 383sbc for the truck? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

chevelles are heavy pigs. they need BB power, or fiberglass front ends and deck lids. keep the BB in the chevelle and build the 350hp SB for the blazer.

I'd say no if you are running 10 bolts.

Also the kind of power that BB makes might not be in the right rpm range that is used off-road. For trails and slow stuff it would be wasted, wide open mud would be sweet though haha /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I second that. The big block has all kinds of axle twisting power

Right now i am doin a 14bff swap into the truck /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif and im sure a front dana 60 will be following. so im not to worried about the axle issue

I agree. If it is built to screem, won't be as good on the trail.

If it came down to it i would definatly have to swap out the cam, right now im running 248 intake and exhuast duration @ .050 and .540 lift but i also have a set of 1.8 full roller rockers whick would increase those #s.Also im running a 3500 stall converter.( I shift the car at 6500 rpms)I would have to drop it down into the 210 to 215 duration and maybe .500 lift to bring it in to a respectable trail rpm.

There is alot to consider in the whole thing--- fuel injection or kept the 825 race demon carb, entire fuel system ,cooling system, exhuast and the axles .Has anyone else swapped to a big block? How did you like it?pros / cons?

I personally would leave your built big block in the car and build a motor for your truck. Just cam down the car motor if you want to drive it on the street again. Extremely cool car by the way /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

ok, Thats the end of that.I guess ill start looking in to building a 383ci /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gifThe chevelle lives on. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif
