I put this in the Garage cuz there's more activity in here so here it goes...

Found this on C/L...77 K30 6.2L/700r4/np208/D60/14ff...runs good, good body, interior decent...he was asking $4k. Engine was swapped in, he doesn't know what it came with originally, and of course the tranny and transfer case aren't stock either.

Offered to trade my 98 K3500 with a tired 350 that I bought from my boss recently for $500. I have maybe $900 total into this truck.

My wife is on me about the fact that I have been wanting the 98 for a long time and now I want to trade it? Trying to convince her that the diesel is a better option.

What do you guys think?

Hmmm, i'd be apt to keep the newer rig- fi, guessing 4l80e, more creature compforts. then keep an eye out for a furd d60 and do a sas...

just my .02

and who puts a 700r in a one ton???

Well they are basically the same...manual windows/locks...neither a/c's work(hahaha)...mine is just the worktruck version.

700r4 not sure. Anyone else running a 700r4 behind a 6.2L?

Edit: The SAS is something that I have been wanting to do when money allows for it.

willing to bet when the guy did the swap, he got the motor/trans/t-case as a package deal, or he had the setup from another truck.

I have a friend in Phoenix that had a Blazer with a 6.2/700r4/208 combo setup. That overdrive sure did stretch out the fuel mileage on that motor.

But yeah I do understand your question :D

and yeah, personally, i'd keep what you have, don't worry about the Diesel.

Lots of people run that setup and they work great...in a Blazer or 1/2-ton pickup/Burb. Almost all the 1-tons have TH400's or 4L80E's.

I'd do the trade. Lots of options for the older steel you can upgrade with. Already has the big axles under it and a somewhat newer motor/tranny swap done. That being said with yours being a bit tired and such I wouldn't worry about the trade. I think you'd make out just fine in the trade.

Keep what you got, and replace or rebuild the motor and do the sas. That old 77 is cool, but if you want the truck to tow with, the 700r4 would be a weak link.

I like the older sheet metal. I bet the older one will be more work overall. But you got to pick which ever one you like best. If you do that you will be money ahead, because you will keep it for a very long time

That's the problem I can't decide. :doah: I love the old square body stuff and with it having everything on it already...but I'm happy with my 98 as well. Have always loved this body style especially the 1 ton crewcabs...and to eventually do an SAS would be the best of both worlds I guess.

My wife had a point about the fact that I have been bugging my boss about this truck for several years and now that I got it I'm wanting to trade it. Says it doesn't make sense to her.

Thanks for the input guys. Decisions decisions decisions...

Is the 77 originally a diesel? If not, be leary of gas to diesel swaps in respect to registration and smog.

Thats what makes me nervous about that swap.

That, and the trans. Tough call, for sure.

Smog was my question as well. Where he lives he is not required to do emissions...but I do. The engine is not original to the truck.

i would keep the 98. your not very much invested into it and you know the truck. you have no idea what your getting with that 77

That's what my wife keeps saying. At one time I had thought that since I didn't have much invested in the 98 it would be easy to sell it for a lot more than what I paid or trade it for something. But I have gotten attached to it and have made plans and come up with some ideas of what to do to it....SAS...rebuilt engine...longbed stepside.........plus the rims that I got for it...Dodge 17".

I guess my mind is made up...keeping the 98. Thanks for the input guys.

If the 77 was originally a diesel, I wouldn't get closer to it than I could throw a rock at it, as it would have the epic pile-o-crap 5.7 Olds diesel whose strong point was it made a good boat anchor.

Actually it has a 6.2L in it.

BUT it would have been titled as a diesel, so whatever diesel swap you would do would be more or less smog legal. Diesel vs gas title is the deal breaker.
