Should my pinion move closer to the ring gear?

While I like the heel toe center of the pattern, it could be a little closer to toe. It appears to close to the face of ring gear.
Moving the ring gear toward pinion will adjust this.
What is your back lash with set current set up?
I'm at .008. You thinking I should try for .006?

as close to the minimum as you can get is always my target. it is only going to increase. I like this pattern better than your newest even though it coast side.

it is just a tad to close to the toe. remember that under load the pattern will stretch out

Yea I do like how the coast side looks. Weird how the drive side gives a different pattern shape. Maybe I'll go tighter on the backlash like .004 just to see how the pattern changes?

Looking at some gear spec sheets online, depending on the gears, whether they’re a 2 or 5 cut, they show backlash as low as .003 so personally I would try .004 and see if it feathers better. If this was the front, I’d be already drinking beer while filling it with oil, but the rear is your main link to the road. I try to get it as 3-tits as possible.

Backlash at 3 and 4 sounds super tight. What brand gears are these? It should tell you the range if they came with any paperwork. My Motive Gears said no lower than .006 and I finally got 0.007 (after like 10 shim combos) and called it a night. This all depends on how they are cut. I think how they were cut is why your drive side doesn't look as good as your coast. I also would suggest you check the lash in at least three to four areas on the ring. You may find it different at different points, mine was. Good luck, setting up my gears was one of my favorite accomplishments on my truck.
