im lookin for some headers for my 79 K10. Summit has a boat load ranging form $89 to $400. So show me your headers and tell me what you think of them so i can make a choice. and if any body knows what the difference is between a $89 set and a $300 set let me know.

the cheap headers dont seal as well, have thin materials and alot of the time dont fit just right.

i have doug thorly tri y's on my 79. thick flanges thick tubing.

i have the cheapo ones.. not sure brand they came with the truck. They seal good at the head, but the flange is so dang small for the collector they always leak.. Some header buddies would solve this, but i am lazy.

I'm also running of the cheap ones to but from Jegs(part #555-30055). I am so far impressed for the price they came with gaskets, bolts and collectors, and fit perfect with no interference with the shackles nor starter although the coating that is on them was a little lacking. But rember you get what you pay for.

Mine are for a big block, HPC coated Sanderson headers. I wanted some shortys because I am tired of the clutter under the truck and every other set of headers I've had fit great but the collectors ended up 6" from the t-case crossmember which made pipe routing a pain.

I'm sure some will say they're over priced or they're no better than manifolds, bottom line is I'm happy and like them.

A lesson I learned the hard way - If you want coated headers buy them coated! Having it done after the fact will cost a lot more. Ask me how I know... :doah:

What are "header buddies"?

Small block or Big block?

its a small block. good old 350.
thanks for the input so far it has been helpful.
there was some thing brought up that i had not thought of. clearance. has any body had issues with clearance. i dont want to deal with that i want them to bolt on and not have to figure out what to do with the starter or any of that crap.

I'm running Flowtech shorties (don't like long tubes on a 4x4 because most of them hang too low and get too close to the starter and shackles). I run the set that fits 88-95 truck and with a very small amount of grinding (1/4" or less) on the driver side frame rail and also welding the 02 sensor hole shut (install an 02 bung in the pipe just below the collector if you need to run an 02 sensor) and they fit just fine. You will have to redo the Y-pipe but that's easy enough. These will work with both straight plug or angle plug heads (i'm running angle plug heads). I actually just bought a new set from Summit about 2 weeks ago to replace my OLD wore out ones that i bought second or third hand. Part number 91830FLT http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-91830FLT/

I bought a set of headman with 1 5/8 flow tubes, 3inch collectors and ball flanges...no more collector gaskets. There is plenty of room by the starter but not so much by the shackles, they clear but barely. Shorties would of worked better for me....I do tho have the origional paper gaskets for 3 years on my headmans and they seem to be a quality header.

Running Dynomax long tubes with the flange on the engine side cut ( only have had to replace one gasket in 4 years with it cut ) so there is no pressure on the flange.
