Here's my 88'.

Your truck is sweet. I've kept up on it a bit in other threads, but have never posted. Just wanted to let you know. The custom driver's door is super rad. Do you have to replace hinge pins due to the extra weight? Were you able to modify a hard top to work with that too? I don't think I've ever seen a pic of it with the hard top on.

Anyway, :waytogo:

Actually the door was modified when it was new. A company was putting wheelchair lifts in SUV until the owner past away a few years ago. This was the second truck he built and I was crazy enough to buy after one owner and sitting at the builders shop for 18 years. The hinges look stock but are modified to let the door swing 90*. This is what it looked like when I bought it.

Woah! So cool to see the original set up. That little window is pretty interesting. I like the aesthetic of your current set up better, but it's still sweet either way!

Any pics of how the hard topper worked on that set up?

Here's a picture during the teardown and rebuild stage. We thought we would modify the hardtop somehow but I fit in and out of it without cutting it. There is a little gap at the bottom of the hardtop and top of the door that weather stripping takes care of and a channel we put on the hardtop so water runs toward the back and dumps. I haven't had the dartop on since I bought the softtopper and I don't see it happening either. I'm actually consider selling the hardtop new seals and all. Man they where expensive.

I'll try to find one with the finished product. It wasn't on long and the top is black with tinted windows now.

I agree and have been following too. I think its a true success story that you are able to work on and enjoy your K5 with a wheelchair. The K5 looks badass :waytogo: I like your style.

/\/\This rig is one of the few K5's that got me into them. When I first started looking at them, this is the one that I aspired to with my '88 diesel (same colour scheme). Awesome looking rig man

Thanks! How about the original topper with the extended door window?

They did some work on that top with some heavey steel to strengthen things as well. Here's a picture of what we found when we cut it apart.

Looks like "good in theory but not in practice" describes that work.

Thanks man. I do love my truck, and I'm a little bit crazy too. I work hard for what I got and I'm a lucky guy and appreciate the fortunate things in my life.
