Side exit exhaust-Fumes in the cab? Installed 3/23 w/pics

Who ever owned my K5 before me had the exhaust ran so it exited right before the rear tires, and I get LOTS of fumes in the truck whenever I have any window down. I cant wait to ditch my crappy exhaust.

i had a single outlet before the tire on my drivers side....it was fine for me. i dindt have much of a problem.

I've heard the little airfoil-wing-dam thing that some blazers have above the rear window helps cut the fumes from rolling in the back window.

That was actually engineered to help clean the back window by using air flow across the window after passing over the roof so in theory the air would push exhaust traveling up back down & away.......... unless the vehicle stops moving:doah:

I just finished the exhaust. I decided to make high clearance a priority before everything else. That I accomplished, as the mufflers are as high/protected as they're gonna get. For sound, with the doors off it is much louder. It resonates at about 1000-1200 R's and it is annoying as hell. Other than that it should be tolerable for a drive every now and then. For fumes, they still get in with the back window down. Dammit. No fumes with the window up though, and there shouldn't be any with the top off I'm hoping. I didn't run the pipes out to the rockers, they just looked too vulnerable. 2 feet of pipe just waiting to get crushed. Running them all the way out to the side may help with fumes, I don't know. Maybe I'll try it later...........Kevin

I've thought of doing the exact same routing! :waytogo:

I've very interested to see how it works for you. You'll have to make some trail runs with us this year. Although I'll probably end up getting my exhaust done before that. :doah:

Thats the plan anyways, I gotta get out and meet some people. I won't be "done" ready to wheel for another 2-3 months yet, but that should be just in time. Blazer Bash at minimum. Kevin

You can try cutting the tips like GM did, that's supposed to be fairly effective in getting the exhaust to exit even lower.

Inboard like that may be the problem, it just goes underneath instead of alongside, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Lower would be theoretically better.
