anyone know how to fix this? is there a set screw? adjustment? or is this just caused by worn bushings? every time i close the door the driver side mirror flips inward almost to the door, and just driving down the road at 50mph the mirror will be blown in by the wind. its rather dangerous actually. thank god for all the big windows on this thing.

is this an easy fix or am i going to have to replace the whole mirror assembly?

thanks all.

i just threw a drill bit into the shaft of the mirror. then screwed it with a drywall screw. works like a charm. but ya gotta throw it real hard. lol just kidding drill a hole and then put a screw in it

Easy fix for everyone... Take the screw at the bottom of the mirror out, and slide the plate up and out of the way. Then loosen / tighten the 10mm / 3/8" bolts as required :)

Take the mirror cover off, (have fun keeping that rubber mirror cover grommet in place lol) look in there, look at how the shaft is "pinched". Cut a bicycle tube up, put the section around the mirror post where it gets pinched, and tighten it up. Not too much or the mirror will never move and rip your door up if it gets hit, but setup right it will allow it to move yet firm enough not to move when you shut your door. :)

oh goody, i get to take stuff apart :D play time!!

oh and im a part time bicycle mechanic, so i should be able to find a few old bike tubes

Before completely reassembling, make sure you can tighten it just enough.

I can't recall for sure, but I did this "mod" so long ago, I may have had to grease the bicycle tube up a bit to allow ANY slip.

sweet, now, i looked undernieth the mirror mount, and there is just a single allen key button head bolt. is that what i take out? or is this something where i am supposed to take the door panel off and get to the mounts on the inside of the door, loosen the nuts, remove the mirror mount, get inside it, and after repairing it, put it all back together, cuz im also having some door lock cylender problems, so i need to get in there anyway. so its no biggie. i just dont wanna do this the wrong way and screw it up, my backup car isnt running right now, and the truck is coming up on inspection.

Allan screw comes out, then you slide the cover up along the arm for the mirror to access the internals/remove the mirror from door.

I can't recall if there is any glass still in my mirrors. The trees and rocks push them in so often I just leave them like that.
