I recently built new side panels for our Jimmy. I posted it in the Audio section because I built the panels to install a sub and an amp, but for anyone interested in replacement side panels, you might want to take a look. I posted the pics on my Photos 2 page at:

It seems to me that the amp would get hot also. I used a computer fan, it runs off 12volts, and is very small. Works great.

You may be right, but I took it on good authority from another member who installed the amp in a similar spot and hasn't had any trouble in five years. The side where the amp is, isn't air tight, there is a gap at the bottom and since the MDF is 5/8 it does not fit flush against the body behind the seat belt retractor. Since it is firmly anchored to the inside fender well, the amp has the body for a heat sink.

I used to have 2 amps and a crossover installed like that and they never once shut off. I really like that install. Is your sub in a box or free air? Is there a sub on the other side? How does it sound (honestly) Does it have any low notes whatsoever (not compared to your moms car, compared to a sealed or ported box with a simlar set-up) Again, I really like your install. Where exactly is that amp again? On the same side as the subs? Is it inder the insulation or what...Sorry for so many questions..Also could you have put a bigger sub, say a 12 inch. I think I see how you have the sub boxed up according to the first pic. Was any kind of sealant used on the seams of the "box"?

Hey looks good, and not too get off subject but how did you cover your roll bar and what did you use...
thanks, loudtuneschevyfumes.

Nice setup! I may borrow this idea since I have to replace the cheap factory panels anyway!
About that roll-bar, does it make getting to the top bolts any harder?

The roll bar is covered with 1 7/8" Armor Flex. It is a refrigeration line insulation. The side bars were covered by sliding on the insulation before bolting it in. The rest had to be cut lengthwise and glued with contact cement on the joints.

I've used 5 or 6 different amps behing those panels in my Blazers and they never shut off. All Rockford Fosgate.

Chevy good...Ford bad

I think I'm the guy referred to with the amp behind the side panels for years............thanks Fred. Never have had a problem with heat or anything with it mounted there. Probably depends on the quality of the amp, mine is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 150. Pics of my side panels on my site below...............

Could any of you guys make me a pair ? Seriously, I don't even have the factory ones to use as patterns. They wouldn't need to be carpeted or anything, I could do that. I've got an 82 if that makes any difference.
