These two are sitting across the fence from where I work. Haven't moved in months. Think it's a DRMO/surplus lot. Probably waiting for GovLiq to come and mangle them with a forklift. No markings I can make out on the windows to say what's up with them. Bodies are straight, trucks are sitting level, tires holding air...at the very least they'd make good body donors.

Sigh...

M1008 or two around here being used by Facilities but not in anywhere near as nice of shape.

Saw the same thing at this little, out there, training area near FT Bliss a few years ago. Bout 3 1008s sitting around, quite a few axles (matched sets of tons), doors, hoods, grills, 6.2 engines, th400s, all kinds of useful CUCV parts. I talked with the dude running the yard about all of it and he basiclly told me that if I hauled down a trailer and loaded up what i wanted, it would be no big deal. Im still kicking myself.

My .02, find the HMFIC of the yard and start a dialog. Then find out his brand of suds and see what happens. Lotsa times that old weed bound stuff has been off the property books for so long no-one asks questions about it because its fodder for trades.
 
It's complicated here because we're not a military facility. State owned property that deals with a ton of military stuff.

I do know the facilities director though. Might put a bug in his ear about it.
 
Seems to be a common theme. A friend of a friend of a friend I know, knows of 5 or 6 sitting on a military base "up north" out in the boonies with weeds up to the doors. When I needed a rear for my Jimmy told me they could get one from one of these forgotton blazers. I passed. Not crazy about messing with the govt. Yea I know, I'm a scaredy cat.:D
 
Well, since the picture vanished I'll add it again.

If it's from the MI Army Reserve or MI NG units I've heard several comments about how ROUGH those CUCV's were/are. When I had my M1008 in Michigan folks always wanted to talk about it and it seemed like every former NG guy had a story about how bad theirs were treated/surviving. One guy was a firefighter and said they were given a M1009 from the MI NG and they basically just parked it around back they were too worried about how beat it was.

A m1008 was on the gov surplus site 2 weeks ago, it was 10 miles from here. Had both batteries dead in it, i took 2 out and it fired right up not even cranking over 3 times. Needed wheel cylinders and prob 4 yires since they were really rotted but nice...:D... The body was super nice just rattle canned red since a fire co had it. The surplus site had it for a week at under 500.00, the last day it rocketed up over 2,000 the last 15 min of sale.....:doah:.....I was bumbed....another sad day...lol.


I never see any of the military stuff here cheap, if it is its destroyed

Could be the same ones. Where was that pic taken if you dont mind me asking.
 
Lexington, KY where I live and work now. You won't find anything as nice as these back up in the rust belt.
 
Stuff lives longer here if it's had even a modicum of care over the years.
 
It's ridiculous around here too. I remmeber about two years ago my buddy and I had to goto the can yard (cannibalization point) to get something for a HMMWV, so of course we shammed out while there and over at DRMO they had about 6 CUCVs lined up all pretty immaculate looking, so we wandered over to the office to ask about them.

They couldn't sell them through qovliq (for whatever reason) couldn't let a unit sign for one, they were gunna be parted then scrapped. Even the guys who worked there hated it.

it sucks that us guys in the armed forces dont get much on dibs ether.so much mil spec stuff gets tossed and could be reused since we are already paying for it in taxes to begin with.very sad thing sometimes.some stuff from the motorpool was extra and as long as the motor seargeant said it was all good i got a few good things left with me over the years i was in.
 
Used to be different when it was just DRMO. Go to the lot, look at what they had, put in a bid, they'd wait until the end date and contact the winner. Buddy of mine bought a M1009 with 37,000 miles on it in Pensacola for $250 that way back in '98. No one bid against him and he put the minimum bid in.

Friend of mine used to get HMMWV tires for his pickup all the time when they'd replace all the tires on the HMMWV's in the motorpool. He'd put a chalk mark on the tires he liked, wait a few days after they replaced them all, then go over to DRMO lot and buy them for $15 each.

GovLiq and the newer processes have complicated this all to ****.
