I'm looking at getting an open element filter for my Jimmy, and I'm not sure whether my Quadrajet uses the flat, drop, or offset base. Also, what brands do you guys recommend? I dunno if I'm willing to spend $60-100 on one, since my motor is stock, I'm just looking for some better MPG and power, and a cleaner setup.

Also, I will have to buy a breather filter for my valve cover, correct?

I have a standard 14" chrome drop base air cleaner. You're welcome to it if you cover shipping.

The stock filter. I'll never buy another chrome one IMO

too much trouble with sucking water in there. I don't have any problem gettin enough air either

Running an open element air cleaner will do just the opposite. The colder the air the better, open element means hot underhood air rather than cool ambient air.

Why do so many people run these then? I was planning on taking it off and putting the stocker on for wheeling.

Because so many people are lead to believe that the open element air cleaner will flow more air than the factory cleaner which isn't true.

yeah when i got my truck some guy had on a small open filter on a holly that is way too rich. I went to the yard and put the stock filter and holder on, no hose to the grill though so im probably still getting warm air, but if rather not suck in water flying through puddles.

Hey, just to hijack this a bit...anyone have pics of their stock air intake setups?

The CUCV's didn't come with any sort of tubing so I just have the housing on top and nothing else. Would like to get some more/colder air flow into the engine without resorting to a cold/ram air setup.

My 78 carb motor didn't come with a tube at all, but the little inlet opening is TINY. The TBI one had a giant oval opening and a hose that ran to the grille. Could I use the TBI intake instead?
