Mainly working on the interior right now. Cleaning up the dash, installing a Kenwood stereo and speakers, and using brushed stainless where the carpet was on the lower doors and interior panel. What do you guys think of the last pic with the stainless on the door panel? Im thinking of eliminating the door pulls and pleated panels to go with the lower door.

Plans are: 4" lift, 4.56 gears w/35's, Line X the interior, cage (need one for the dunes if the top is off) eventually a repaint and a rebuild on the motor. Nothing crazy as it will be a dune cruiser and occasional driver in the summer.

Is that thing as clean as it looks?
Yeah. I was pretty amazed myself when I went to look at it. It was originally from southern Tenn./Georgia area and brought up here 7 yrs ago. PO blew the rear and trans and put it in storage for 6 yrs. The only real issue I have with rust is where the bed floor meets the tail pan. Surface rust mostly on the ribbed part where the trim strip screwed in with one soft spot about the size of a dime that I will cut out and patch.

Sweet. Gotta be damn near impossible to find clean metal there.

The black, with the maroon interior is one of my favorite color combos from the late 80's on these trucks.

Its grown on me. My original plans were to dye all the interior panels black but decided it was too much work. Im glad I changed my mind. I have black seat covers and thats enough.

Definitely a nice truck. Same color combo as mine except mines a 91. Your's is a lot cleaner though, good luck with it man!

Will they let a factory fiberglass topper in without a rollbar?

I imagine so. Adam doesnt have a roll bar/cage does he, or does he? dont remember. A guy I was talking to at the campground told me you couldnt go on the dunes w/o a roll bar if you had an open top. Course I could be guilty of taking someones word for it. I know what you're getting at. Fiberglass isnt going to offer much protection in the event of a rollover. Ima have to check that out officially.

That fiberglass top has some decent reinforcement in it, but the way it is bolted to the bed towards the back would make me a little uneasy in anything more than a flop.
I do know they will NOT let you in without a bar to protect the rear passengers. It has to be behind their head.

I just read this on the silver lake dune DNR website pertaining to motor vehicles. It does not, however, distinguish between open vehicles and those that are closed.

I've taken my Jeepster in a few years without a rear bar on it, and only had the factory sheetmetal removeable top on it without question. And it is flimsy compared to the Blazer top, although no where near the weight either. I ended up making a set of rear bars to extend behind the rear seat just for my own piece of mind. A simple bar with a couple out riggers front and rear would work well for most running up there. Now if you want to go blasting around like Heath or Adam, a good cage should be installed, and of course the necessary frame strengthening too.

Nope, I have no interest in running that hard. Like I said before, I'm more into cruising with the family. Test hill is about the wildest I would be willing to get. I'll watch Adam and Heath tear it up. A roll bar will be going in the jimmy whether its required or not, just for peace of mind. I would think a four pt would be sufficient.

The SS looks good but does it rattle at all? That's what I'd worry about the most, otherwise it's a great way to "spruce" up the interior. :)

I'm not sure if it will rattle or not, but thats a good pt. nothings permanently attached yet. The plan was to use rivets to attach the SS on the door panels. Im trying to get an aircraft look to it, but Im not sure how it will turn out. We'll see I guess. If it doesnt look right I'll try something else.
