What is the point of the adhesive thinger in the bottom left of the picture? Is it a shim? I've gathered that it sticks to the outer brake pad, but do I need to install it???

Its to reduce vibration and IMO is not absolutely necessary

Got my front calipers on.. Bought another set of calipers today also. I'm gonna start on the rear disk brakes very soon

as mentioned, it's to help prevent vibrations,,,what wasn't said, is these vibrations are what causes the brakes to squeel.

I bought premium Raybestos, the silencer shifted and bent the little tabs, the contact cement must have softened. I took them out. I very rarely get noise and when happens, I step harder. I also have drilled rotors so there is an escape route for dust and "gas".
