Simple Starter Question

Hey guys, i dont know if many of yall remember me but i figured I would stop by to try and resolve this problem ive been having.

I was having trouble with my starter to the point that I have to get underneath my truck and tap it every time i have to start my truck up. I took the starter off and took it to good ole orileys auto parts and they tested it and said the solenoid was bad. I replaced that and it was fine until a few days later im having the same problem. Could this be anything other then the starter that needs replacing?

if you run headers you may be cooking the starter solinoid?

Try a remote ford solenoid...

well when i replaced the starter solenoid i header wrapped the starter itself and the solenoid has a shield that looks like it keeps it away from the heat good enough so i figured it was fine.

what yrs could you find this and what application? next time my solenoid goes (which it just did) i want to switch over to the remote solenoid.

I did it once.. but dont remember the year range.. do a search for ford solenoid, you'll find it...

Keeps your solenoid from baking, and out of the water...
Usually one of my first mods...

the starter cranks fine after i bang on it a couple of times, so does it need replacing? the solenoid is literally 2 days old.

yes, it is a dead spot on the armature, not the solenoid.

Sounds like the armature is wore in the starter maybe?? think that's what was wrong with mine. Had it rebuilt and no more problems

alright, a new starter it is! thanks guys i really appreciate the quick responses. i leave for school in 4 days so im kinda rushing to get everything it good shape.
