I know I'm going to catch crap for even asking about this....
BUT...

Has anyone on here ran a 10 series flowmaster (the single chamber "race" ones) on a big block?

Thinking factory manifolds into a high flow cat into a single chamber... all 3".

For the dd/tow rig BTW.

I would think it would be loud as hell even with stock exhaust manifolds.

I think itd be really loud. My 50 series flowmasters with 2.5" pipe, cut off right after the mufflers are pretty friggin loud. Of course Im about to put super 44's on it with dual 3" teeheehee.

way too loud for a tow rig. my suburban 350 has a normal 2 chamber flowmaster on it and when i kick down it's just right. my other truck with a 454 also had 2 chamber flowmasters on it with manifolds and it was annoying... wasn't even near quite at cruising rpm.

not a bb, but I do have 3" single chamber flows under my 76 K5 with a 350, they dump just aft of the front seats, but under the truck with no tailpipes. I have no carpet, no bedliner, etc. so it resonates at times and can be loud when stomped, but I like it. the only thing people ever say when they hear it is "damn!", although a chick in a parking lot last week said it sounded sexy......

I run them on my big block.. They are pretty loud, but I think they sound great. Mine are the 10 series no noise reduction type though. I am not sure which tyoe you are actually looking at getting. But all in all if you don't think your local police will harrass you then go for it.

Nah I don't think the police will care... there are plenty of guys around town that have insanely loud exhaust systems...
Honestly I think it depends on how you're driving... don't give them a reason to pull ya' over and you'll be ok. ;)

The black truck has a true dual system w/ two flowmasters and it sounds great but supposedly you're not supposed to do that b/c you'll fail the visual... but my smog guy hasn't ever said anything.

I'm going to run by the exhaust shop this week and chat with them... they do so many trucks I'm sure they'll know what sounds good and what doesn't...

I imagine it can't be too bad if you have a cat on it... I think there are even a few people here that run nothing but a cat without any complaints.

Previous owner of my Suburban put 3" single exhaust all the way out with a Flowmaster 40 2 chamber(also a 3" in/out) and did not put a new cat on. Loud is an understatement from the outside, inside it's not too bad other than the drone, however I imagine it won't be as bad with a truck, and a newer one at that.

I love the sound with the windows down but I hate the drone while cruising...:doah:
