Ok so I have since gotten rid of my K5 and went back to atvs and am looking into a trailer. I asked this on another board but figured I would here as well....

Ok so that my question makes more sense I will give a little info on what I am trying to accomplish. Right now I have 2 Sportsman 400's for me and my wife. I have been renting a trailer from u-haul and putting one in the bed for right now but would rather have my own trailer. In buying a trailer though I want to get the most useful trailer that will haul atleast 3 full size atv's. The reason for this is that when my son gets a little older we plan on getting him his own, and then when we have a second kid they will eventuall get their own. So we will be hauling around 4(one in the truck and 3 on the trailer) I would rather buy 1 trailer now that we can keep and use for a long time.

Onto the trailer... I am looking at a 7x14 trailer where one loads sideways on the front and the other on the rear. Later on we can turn 3 sideways on it. The only problem is with 3 atv's and some gear it pushes the limits of the trailer. My thought was either upgrade to a 5200# axle with brakes or get a tandem trailer that can handle more weight. Not sure which would be better long term or benefits from one to the other. Also I was thinking aluminum but I would rather steel so that if needed I can work on it and weld to it with the stick welder I have. Also the reason for the size is so that it can be parked in a garage.

Oh and I am towing it with a 97 Chevy 1500(tow rating is 6000#)

I'd never ever ever buy another single axle trailer for hauling quads. Two quads and a lot of them are maxed. By time you special order an upgraded 5,200 axle with brakes you can just get the tandem axle 7,000 rated trailer.

I have a 20' enclosed trailer and its too small because we ended up with a RZR too. When I bought the trailer I never thought we'd end up with a Side by Side. Now we are looking at getting a second RZR. I like the enclosed trailer cause it is the garage then for the ATVs and RZR, no unloading and loading at home.

For the best cheap option I'd get a tandem axle ''ATV'' trailer or ''Buggy'' style trailer. Or at minimum get a normal 7,000k rated 18' or 20' car trailer.

To haul a Blazer or quads or RZR I'd love the PJ ''Buggy'' style trailer in the 20' length and 10K rated flavor.

I'd definitely get a tandem axle. Tandems tow much better. Brakes are nice to have as well.

I have discovered it is best to figure out what size trailer you need and get one a couple feet bigger. Kind of like buying a safe. Once you start taking trips for a few days you will see why. Fitting coolers, tents, etc is much easier when you have extra space and dont have to arrange stuff like Tetris. Also side loading kind of sucks compared to just pulling straight on. I have to side load one of mine and I hate it.

Steel vs aluminum comes down to price. Aluminum trailers are much more expensive. Your truck should do fine with a steel trailer and 3-4 ATVs.
