I did a search but didnt come up with anything that made much sense to me. How would i go about doing a single wire setup? can i use the starter i have now? do i need to run a seperate selinoid? what do you have and how does it work? im gona spend the time to wire up my new winch this weekend and my wiring needs some attention so i thought maybe id start rewiring things the right way! 79 tub = lots of crappy wiring patches and misc. wires.

I've done the mod. Very easy to do, just do it like Dontoe did. I have the solenoid mounted on the firewall instead.
The pros,
Clean install(if done right).
Not acceptable to heat soak.
No "hot wires" to get close to headers or anything else down there.
Easy starter replacement, You don't have to hold the starter while trying to remove the ******* wires. This is a problem with headers because the headers make it hard to reach the wires. Now I unhook the cable at the solenoid at the fire wall.
The cons,
You are adding an extra switch that could fail and adds more resistance in the starter cable.
...
That's all that I could think of.

It's pretty easy actually. I did a little how-to!

Is it necessary to switch to a Ford solenoid? I like the idea of less wires and being able to connect a bump start easily, but I'd like to use my existing parts.

Yep...............but they're cheap. And there is a Chevy motorhome part number for the same style solenoid. I'll see if I can find it. :wink1:

Much obliged... I'd really like to simplify as much as possible.

Yeah guys, please, lets stop refering to it as the Ford solenoid mod..

It's a slave solenoid..

my build thread goes into the mod too...
