Researched this about a year ago, but didn't get any clear cut answers.
Have an 05' Ford F550 4X4 with 19.5" 10 bolt wheels. Used mainly on road for heavy hauling from Spring through late Summer. In the winter it's main duty is hauling and feeding large round bales out in our crop fields and pastures.
Run GoodYear G124 tires for the winter, as they are the most agressive DOT rated tire I can find. For the Spring/Summer hauling season I run regular highway tires.
I have singled out my dual rear wheels for winter time use the last two years by just taking the inside wheels off. This has worked OK, but leaves the brakes exposed. Running only the inside wheels looks awfully narrow, and seems squirrely on loose gravel or slick roads. Either way it gets around much better off road with singled out rear wheels.
Super Singles don't seem to be available in this wheel size, and probably wouldn't be ideal off road. Custom built wheels are available, but somewhat spendy.
Any suggestions or comments?
What is the proper way to single out dual rear wheels?
Any tire tread available that is more agressive than the Goodyear G124's? The G124's are just glorified AT's.
Thanks
Brad

. Maybe some Toyo M/T's.
but you could get 20"s. I'd get steel ones.
