Just added a Pioneer DEH -X8500BS head unit and added the XM module to it. Got all of the wires run and the head unit is working great except for the XM reception is spotty. I have the antena velcroed to the back of the review mirror (best spot I could find).

It seems to cut in and out randomly. Any thoughts or advice out there?

Thanks!!!

I ran my wire across the back side of the dash and up the pillar and just stuck it on the top corner of the roof. Works good down here in the mountains. Mine is not integrated with the head unit. As I have a fleet of cars and only paying one subscription.

When I had my antenna mounted to the roof (above the rear view area) I never had reception issues. This was in my 90 Blazer. In my 2015 GMC I have all sorts of reception issues, especially driving through the mountains in BC. Also roof mounted (factory shark fin dealie) I'll ask the service tech when it get's serviced next. The spotty reception is the only thing keeping me from signing up...

Rhinodrvr, to get your best reception you need to mount the antenna on the roof. If you have it mounted inside, your best bet is at the bottom of the window. Depending on the glass(angle, tint etc...) You may get good reception. Outside unobstructed view of the sky is best.

tRustyK5, sounds like you have a bad antenna(niked wire?) or bad connection(not fully pluged in)

This is how mine is mounted.

I just ordered a stereo system for my 72 K5. I have a Kenwood marine head unit. It comes with a XM / Sirius magnetic antenna. I have no idea where the best place would be to place it would be. I don't want to have to move it around. I'm in Colorado and winters I will rock the hard top summer she will be topless. Trying to figure out where to put the magnetic unit.
