I´m going to build a new fueltank skidplate and a rear bumper for the sub and
started with removing the old rear bumper to take some measurements.
Discovered that I have something else to do first.... It's a lot of rust and I removed the rear carpet
and found some more. Also found an old repair thats not too nicely done.
Now I have something to do for a while:doah:

YEah when I really inspected to see how much rust I had in the back of my burb, I just lopped it all off...

I don't have to deal with a tail pan anymore, hahaha. AND!!! It's comptletely street legal:D!

Some updates, this project is taking way too long... I'm still not done with the rustrepairs.

I made a access hole for the fueltank while I was cutting away the rust. It nice to get access to the fuellines and even the bolts for the shackelflip without having to remove the fuel tank.

Here's a closer look of how I fixed the rust around the inner fender.

The new bumper is going to cover the sides all the way to the wheel openings so the sparetire well had to go. Nice with a flat floor.

As you probabaly noticed I'm not a profesional welder:doah: but it's actually getting better and better and sometimes it looks quite nice:D

Next thing to fix is this...

it you were closer, I would give you all the pieces I cut off to help your burb out.

I have a crapload of rust on mine too, I think its the salted roads that may not be good

Thanks ! I´m almost done now. The rust repairs are done and I´m currently working on the skidplate.

Made a new rear bumper that turned out really nice.

Pictures are coming soon...

Finally finished with the bumper project:) The rusty floor is fixed, the rear fenders are cut for better departure angle and the bumper and skidplate is finally ready. Also repainted the whole truck army green.
This is how it turned out:

I took a lot of pictures during the build up so here they come....

bumper1_start.jpg

This is what I started with.

bumper2_mounts.jpg

This is how the bumper is mounted to the frame. Also cut off about 3" of the frame to make the bumper sit closer to the floor.

bumper3_holes.jpg

Cutting holes for the mounts. If you don't have a plasma cutter you have to have a lot of patience and a good saw:D

bumper4_testfit.jpg

Testfit! Looks beefy.

bumper5_welding.jpg

Welded both sides of the mount. Also reinforced them with a traingle on the outside of the mount.

bumper6_triang.jpg

Here's a better view of the triangle.

bumper7_sidebars.jpg

Theese are going to be sidebars to protect the fenders from trees on narrow trails.

bumper8_welded.jpg

Sidebars welded to the bumper.

bumper9_testfit.jpg

Testfit of the sidebars.

bumper10_cutting.jpg

Cutting off the corners to make the thing look like a bumper. And yes, it's very easy to set your pants on fire:haha: Don't ask...

bumper11_cut.jpg

Corners cut off.

bumper12_newangle.jpg

Welded the upper part back again.

bumper13_finished.jpg

Now it's starting to look like a bumper.

bumper_14_painted.jpg

Painted.

It's feels really cool to actually have built my own bumper :) Actually I wasn't sure If I could do it but it turned out a lot better than I tought so I'm very pleased.

Next project is a diesel conversion, but that have to wait to after the summer.
