Slave cylinder on a input shaft

While I was searching parts for my auto to manual swap, I came up with this idea. Could it be possible to mount slave cylinder from Z28 Camaro on a input shaft of a SM465? Is there enough room for it?

I suppose it could be a possibility. You'd have to check into the bore of it though, see if it'd fit over the shaft. IIRC, sm465 shafts are 10 spline, 1-1/8" diameter. And if there's too much room for it, you could always throw some spacers in there. :thinking:
 
Hydraulic throwout bearings bring the suck...what a great way to ruin a clutch and create a ton more work when it fails. It's gotta be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever seen from any of the auto makers.

Ah yes, the unwritten write up. :D That'll be the way I do it for sure, but if a guy lacks the ability to fabricate a bracket, has a manual housing, and likes to pull out cast iron gearboxes, then you could go with the hydro throwout bearing I guess. Would be easy, as long as it doesn't fail. I do like the ease of an external slave though. Sure is quick to swap one of those.
 
I have never seen anyone replace a clutch in a Furd, that didn't regret not replacing the hydro throwout. They are a poor design and don't last. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Only experience with hydraulic throwout bearings I have is from Saab cars. Haven't heard much problems with them, so I figured why not on 4x4? I'm gonna have divorced t-case, so it wouldn't be that hard to repair if it leaks. But ruin the clutch because of the leak, that's a big no no, and lost $$$ :doah:

Main reason I thought of this was that there wouldn't be any easy to brake parts under the truck, I just hate the idea of being stuck in a middle of a swamp because tree branch took off your slave cylider or pushrod from it (never heard this happend to anyone, but kind of worst case scenario), but then again, that same brach could take away the hydraulic line.

Maybe I copy the Novak system... But I'm using master and slave from Toyota, because if either of them fails on a trail, there's a good chance that someone has spare parts because 'Yotas are really popular in here. And, I could use vacuum assisted master, too :wink1: Just don't know how much it really helps.
