My M1009 has the solid rear side glass. With no a/c, it gets very hot in the back. While looking on Craiglist for tires. I have come across two parts trucks with the factory sliding glass on the cap. Both trucks are near me and not running. They also don't have good tires which is what I really need.

Those of you that have the sliding cap windows. Do they really help with air flow while driving and keep the interior cooler when parked? Trying to see how much I "need" a parts truck here.

Thanks.

I wouldn't view mine as something I absolutely need, but I have nothing bad to say about them, they keep the hatch area cool and with the side "air deflectors" the cab tornado effect is gone while keeping people in the back seat happy, it may be a pain to crawl back there to open/close them but they're nice to have.

More trouble than they are worth. Just because they are suppose to slide doesnt mean they will. Mine were very hard to slide, to a point you couldnt even open them enuff to move the wings around to help.

I had sliders on my truck and yanked them for some nice dark tinted solid glass.

I wouldnt go thru the hassles IMO

I love the way you turned my reply completely on its head!:haha:

I guess I'm lucky to have sliding windows that work like they should, however I cant remove the teeny screws that hold the air deflectors in, but the deflectors themselves stay in the same position that you wanted. Mine also came equipped with heavily tinted glass...

It's a matter of opinion, and in this case what condition they are in

I think they are a must if you have frequent rear seat passengers. Especially on older models without AC.

I love mine and they slide easily and the wings stay where you put them.

I ditched mine pretty quickly after I bought Krusty. They always leaked and aftermarket weatherstrip is junk for the actual slide channel. That being said, if I didn't have AC in Krusty I probably would have kept them. I guess technically I did keep them since the original top is still sitting out front next to Krusty.

i wish i had eh and im up in the great white north eh! lol i have no ac and i found a parts truck to get mine from

I'm a little late to the party here but I just removed the deflectors. The potmetal screws were so rusted I ended up grinding most of them out with the angle grinder.

Now the dogs can hang their heads out the window and I can open them up full when I'm cruising in the heat. (My AC is dead for now.)
Mine leak under direct, high pressure touchless car wash spray but other than that, nope.
It's an old GM with old rubber bushings. Until they're leaking under a light spring rain I'm fine with them now.

as a driver, I don't use them, but for wheeling with passengers, both are open. It's kinda their own window to open, catch a little breeze, and view the action. I also have AC

Thanks for all the input. I looked at 3 parts trucks yesterday that had them. All had rotted out floors. One set of windows was good glass without the knobs. The other two had knobs, but at least one of the glass panes was cracked. Based on the mixed reviews posted here. The fact that my truck is weather tight now without floor rust. I think I will just worry about tires for now and adding a/c. If the a/c doesn't happen by next summer, maybe I will get enthused about sliders again.
