the setup: 1982 k5 350/700/208/10blt, stock height.

how far should the slip yoke protrude? yesterday, i was giving the k5 a post-wheeling once-over and noticed that the slip yoke appeared to be pretty far out (maybe 3-4"). i replaced both rear shaft u-joints on the trail, but that should have zero effect on the slip yoke's position and i honestly don't remember how far it stuck out before, so this is sort of a bonehead question :o. i just don't want the think only grabbing the last inch or two of threads or something. that could cause some expensive an time-consuming breakage.

Depends on how the suspension is sitting - static vs. fully compressed and fully extended. On a 208/241 with a slip yoke it's better to risk dropping the driveshaft out than bottoming it out on the mainshaft and blowing the xfer/transmission.

i know. that's what i meant by "at rest". its static position just sitting on flat pavement. it could be standing higher than usual since i have the top off, rear seat out, and all my trail gear unloaded (i was hosing the mud out). i didn't realize i'd shed that much weight :thumb:.

that's about what i was thinking. i'd rather not have, either happen, though. that's ok. i've considered installing a SYE when i install my lift.

thanks
