Slipping trany

Would loose tranny bolts cause my tranny to completly slip into 3rd? just was about to pull it and all that i can reach with my hand are finger loose.
Also im getting a 91 K5 and wanted to know if the transfer case is the same as out of a 90.

automatic or manual???????? And for the transfer case question as long as its the same case (eg np208) it should bolt up. If the trans is an automatic loose bolts will not cause slipping.
