Slowly but surely, the 1988 V20 Sub

with the filter loose as before it whines less, but after sitting all night and half of today it whined for a good minute this afternoon when I fired it up. I’m curious if I have a crack in my suction tube allowing the pump to lose its prime. I drove it a few different times this evening and it was fine every one of them except that first start after sitting probably 16 hours. Ambient temp today was in the mid to upper 30’s so just above freezing. It’s a shame it wants to give fits, I’m actually enjoying the TH400 otherwise
But yeah I found countless threads of guys arguing about it. So I figured I’ll just go back to the way GM had it, they’re smarter than me lol

for now I’m gonna pray to the GM gods that the 400 doesn’t strand me. I’ve got 2 NV4500’s it’s just convincing myself I want to convert it to three pedals. Although for what I want to do it would be the wise choice.
Finally got around to finishing adding relays to the drivers window to get it working. I despise power windows in this thing, would much prefer crank but these are what I’ve got so I’ll deal. Feels good to finally have the door panel on. Need to throw the door panel on the passenger side. That one can wait until spring
Also have this solenoid, some of wiring on it was factory appearing yet I have no idea what it could be for. everything still works after I chopped the horribly added on wiring from it so I’m not too worried.
The 400 should be good for a long time!

that’s exactly where I’m at right now! I’m going to limp the 400 along as long as I can because I’ve been enjoying it. Do have to be careful with reverse though as it appears to be a bit soft. It’ll chirp the tires in forward but slip in reverse
. As long as the auto buys me time to afford the pedal assembly needed for a 4500 swap we’ll be in business!
Got rid of the dang glass pack. Couldn’t afford another flowmaster right now so I used the dual outlet one I had and made a custom 2-1 with a 3” outlet. 
then got it all welded into place under the burb. Have one more exhaust hanger to build tomorrow but have to pick it up from the toolbox of the 78 at the other farm.
(and yes that slight lean was intentional to miss the heat shield mount)

Not much of an update, but it sits a bit more level now. Wish they’d have showed up two days earlier when it was 50 degrees.

Do you know what the factory code is for you blue color? It looks almost identical to my blue.

i do not, I haven’t stumbled across the build sheet for this one. If I find it I’ll post it up! I do have the RPO sheet in a picture somewhere
They work good but they’re hard on doors in tight areas! I’m going to be taking them off in favor of some of these. Got the brackets off a C30 for $5 just have to wait for warm weather to swap them out. I wouldn’t bother but I plan to take this camping so the big ones have to go
And since I’m updating the thread it might as well be fully up to date. Put some new skinny meats on some factory wheels with caps. Grandpa called he wants his burb back
Although typical of my luck the TH400 has officially about had it. Went to back up last night and there was much more RPM than movement, and a hot ATF aroma right after. Now to baby it until some warmer weather
Well that sucks about the 400. Maybe a ounce of brake fluid would fix it!? Id try it if you never want to rebuild it in the future.

And for some reason most autos run in fear after hearing my name lol. the Allison in my 2500HD was the only auto I’ve ever owned that never let me down!
that’s an interesting idea I’d never heard of or thought of doing that! I’ll probably just sell this 400 off as a core anyways so I really don’t care much about it. For the road trips I’d like to do I’ll end up going with the NV4500. A 4L80 would be good but when you’ve got 2 4500’s why bother right?
Not really a build update but a fun update. A rough plan was put together to see if we could reach the cabin in the woods at his place and have a fire with some pallets that had been gathered from another friends work. Originally I had planned on taking my dodge to save the burb, then said to hell with it and shut the dodge off and took the burb anyways.

I cheated and scratched the cummins itch by just buying the entire dodge. Definitely a better choice for me at this point.
