anyone got any tips on getting my engine and trans to seperate? ive undone all the bellhousing bolts, linkages, removed the inspection cover under the bellhousing. and then i realized i still have the clutch attached. seeing as how ive NEVER changed a clutch, could someone "walk" me through it? its a chevy 350 v8 and an sm465. this is a complete restoration body is already off and in the junkyard. cancer got most of the rear body really bad.

ANY help would be nice.
thanks.

If you removed 6 bolts on the bell, all you need is to pry on it.
There are two centering dowels that will hold it tight.
The shaft goes through the clutch no bolts hold it to the tranny

Make sure the tranny is supported. It's very heavy. Not to make you feel dumb but I've seen people who where unfamiliar with doing this job just grab hold of the tranny and just pull. I always recommend taking the Trans out first by removing the 4 bolts that connect to the bellhousing use 2 longer bolts with the bolt head cut off an use it to slide the Trans back and get it out of the way then pull the bell housing off separately so your not dealing with the clutch linkage an throw out bearing

ok on the topic of the trans, how do i remove the shifter? the spring pin(s) wont come loose/i cant get them to come out. im about to use the torch but a buddy said there are some plastic bushings in there that i cannot replace? is this true or is he being a buzz kill? the only other option i could come up with was to run a tap into them so i could use a bolt to pull them out. please help. im not an idiot i promise but i am out of my realm and this is all new to me. btw thank you for the help. ill try to remove the 465 tomorrow morning or wed morning.

Start in neutral. Push down on the ball joint at the bottom of the shifter and rotate it... clockwise? About 1/4 turn. Once you rotate it pops right out.

And in real world situations, it's tough, bang a 2x4 and hammer against it a bit.

now the real trick is getting the new clutch plate in, putting it all back together and getting it running! Too many first gens under construction! Mine falls under that catagory fo' sho'! Best of luck bro!
