Should gear lube be present in the adapter between the manual 465 and the transfer case?

Yeah. Depending on the adapter there should be either one or two seals in the adapter to keep the fluids in their respective components. Other than that your transmission is free to sling fluid all around in there.

I run a np205 so I could care less if theres gear lube in my adapter since my transmission and transfer case use the same stuff. If you run a transfer case that uses ATF you may want to periodically check the fluid to ensure that the two different lubes arent mingeling with one another.

There isnt gear lube going into my TC, so I know the TC frong seal is still good.

I only wish I knew where the small leak from the front of the tranny is coming from, the front seal of a gasket somewhere, i guess id have to pull it to find out...ouch.
