What i'm wondering is what is the difference in length between a 465/208 combo, and a 700r4/np208 combo?

I swapped to a 4spd manual w/ overdrive and it was the same length as the 700r4/208 combo. Mounted to the same bolt holes on the frame and everything. I didnt have to do any mods to the driveshafts.

My tranny is starting to sound like its gonna blow up and i'm considering bolting a 465 to my hydro bellhousing but am wondering if i'll need a new rear shaft. Anybody help?? Thanks.

Need to know what years we are talking about ???
Sounds like you have a early 1980's combo since you said it has a O/D manual tranny . I assume the tranny had a 27 spline output shaft and the 465's that came with 208's had 32 spline shafts in them .
In 1985 all GM tranny and transfercases started coming with a comon length made possible due to the adapters - I do not know if the year that you have will work out as the same length or not .

The transmission i have in it now came out of an 85' K10. I have never seen one of these transmissions in a k5. I'm not sure what the spline count is. What is it on a 700r4 out of an 88' K5? I have that T-Case still, could that possibly be a 32 spline?

When i was daily driving this truck i liked having the OD. I have another car now and i'm looking the make this more of a toy/tow rig and am probably not gonna need the OD that often. Therefore i am trying to decide to go 465 or rebuild the thing i have in it now.

Late model 4L60E's have 32 splines at the rear but the 1988 should most definetely have 27 spline out put shaft in it - sorry .

I think GM only used that O/D 4-spd a couple of years and than canned the option.

So any 85+ tranny t-case combo should be the same length with whatever adapter is on it?

And it looks like i'll need a new t-case too if i do this swap. I'm assuming any 85+ 465 is 32 spline? But wont have to mess with driveshafts providing the t case has slip yoke.

Should be the same length. There is only one front driveshaft listing for 81-87 10 and 20 series inclusive.
