I am planning on switching out my Th350 for a SM465 and was starting to look for the parts for it. Are the pedal assemblies the same for hydro clutch as for a mechanical one? I definitely want to go with hydro and found some pedal assemblies at the pull a part but they are all mechanical and I didn't know if they would work. Also can a 2wd sm465 be hooked up to a np205 and if so what all has to be changed/adapters needed? Thanks.

2wd vs 4wd doesn't matter as the pedals are the same. Hydro vs mech are different, I'm sure it's possible to use mech pedals with hydro parts but I don't know how (watch the thread in post #2).

As for the 2wd 465, it will have a 2wd specific (35 spline) tailshaft that will not fit any t-case. 4wd 465's use 2 tailshafts, 10 or 32 spline, so be careful to get the correct one for you t-case.

2wd drive is incompatible. You would have to swap the output shaft, and use a 4x4 adapter. Better off just to find a 4x4 tranny, they are all over.

I did this swap once with mech. linkage. I spent $300 and had two of everything. 4-speeds and Np205's very easy to find. The Np205 has different input shaft for the T-350 or 4-speed. Your best bet is to find a tranny and transfer case together already. Have you tried looking at LMC for the Hydro parts??

Like some have said here.... get yourself a 465 and transfer case together... newer 465 with 208 case is the 32 spline... the 465 205 is 10.... if your luck is like mine you will get one of each and nothing will work....

Better yet if you don't have either yet go with a NV4500.... 465 are too low geared.. hard to shift... on and on...... I really wish I had just one extra gear :(

Spend just a little extra and go with the NV4500.... especially if you have to go through the whole clutch issue any ways.... Good luck and keep us posted on your finds.....

There are four 4x4 SM465 combos, not two. There is the SM465/NP205 10 spline. There is the rare SM465/NP203 10 spline combo. Then in the early 80's they swapped to a longer 32 spline output shaft. You can get an S465/NP208 (common, all of these are 32 spline) or an SM465/NP205 32 spline (only in K30's).

Any model truck from '85+ will have the 32 spline set up. '85 marked the change to the short footed adapters with the "W" shaped crossmembers (for all combos) and 32 spline 465/205 set ups.

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely wait til I find a tranny and t-case already together and hopefully I'll be able to find a decent priced NV4500 but if not a 465 will be fine as I my K% wont be seeing much street anyway. Since I have my dash apart already I think I will go ahead and get a set of hydro pedals and put them in and then just hook up the clutch whenever I do the tranny swap (wont that confuse people at first glance lol)

I just put hydro pedals in mine and the job was much easier with the instrument cluster out. I pulled the complete assembly from a truck at a u-pull-it so I wanted to install it the same way (pedals undisturbed, hanging from the bracket). I already had the cluster out so all I had to do was pull the column and stick it in. Much easier that try to fish parts under the dash from the floor. :wink1:

I didn't say otherwise. I was just saying the only way to get an SM465/NP205 32 spline combo was in a K30. That is why there are a whole lot more SM465/NP205 10 spline combos.

I see your point now. :wink1:
