I was wondering if it was possible to adapt hydro clutch onto an SM420? Could you use a later SM465 hydro bellhousing on a SM420? Will it bolt up directly? Can it work without a huge amount of hassle? Thanks

Harley

I thought the bells were the same/??

Oh well.. I bumped you back to the top.
Good luck.

That is one of the things I need to know. Do the mech 420 and the mech 465 use the same bellhousing? If so will the hydro 465 bellhousing bolt to the 420? What else is possilby problimatic with this swap? Thanks

Harley

No, the bolt pattern is the same. but the bearing retainer that centres the bellhousing on the tranny is smaller on the sm420. You can have a ring made to match the inside of the 465 bellhousing hole and the outside of the 420 retainer, and that would work ok. Do a search on pirate in the chevy board, they have discussed it there and have posted the exact measurements several times.
