Which gear should I have it in to remove the cover, neutral or reverse?

I was certain it should be in reverse but the cover will only come up about 2" and then stops. Do I have it in the wrong gear or is there a trick?

The unit repair manual says remove the bolts and partially engage reverse to remove cover.

Hope that gets it for you.

hi jack

Crap, how do you know when you have it in the "sweet spot"? Go fish?

It's literally about halfway...plus there is a bit of leeway for sure. Oh yeah, getting the top cover off is the easy part. Getting the shift collar and fork lined up to get the cover back on is the real fun!

If you have some free time would you mind dropping by this weekend to lend a hand? :rotfl:
