Dude, isn't that what you want? Besides from the smoke, it actually is kinda neat, and sounds better then I expected...

I saw this the other day, I'm always looking at diesels on Youtube.

The only dumb thing is the mailbox/address lettering that he used to put detroit on the side.

Yeah...that got me too. All that work and you spend $1.50 in lettering at the local wally world to show off your engineering?

Wow!! :eel1: Never seen anything like that before. How exactly does that work??/ I mean the shifting

And here I was thinking I would only use that thing for a 5th gear if I got one... I want one now. And my dad thinks I'm nuts.

Pretty simple really. Shift into gear with the 465 shifter then the smaller one for the ranger allows you to shift into OD. So it would go like this clutch, 465 into gear, clutch ranger into od, clutch ranger into 1:1 465 into next gear. Rinse and repeat.

Awesome... after the 2nd time watching I figured out the shifting pattern. Not too hard really.

When the OD was "down" toward the seat, I considered it to be a "half" (.5). So he went, 1st, 1.5, 2nd, 2.5, etc...

Very cool stuff.

Does anyone on here actually have a Ranger? Can you float it, or do you have to use the clutch?

Martin

Gotta use the clutch. The gears are synchro'ed, but AA states that shifting without the clutch will ruin the gearbox. I missed a shift one time and popped the clutch before I was done moving the stick. Sounded like the trans had a bench grinder goin to town inside the case. I stopped the truck pretty quick so I dont think there was any permanent damage done.

Have you ever tried to float it? Do you float your SM465? I want one of these bad. Do you have any pictures of your install?

Martin

I'll admit I tried it once and it just started to grind once the lever moved. You'd think it was like any other trans with synchro'ed gears, but apparantly not.

As for pics, I can shoot some if you tell me what you're looking for. I meant to take pics during the install, but it was as cold as Hillary Clintons heart, so I hurried the install just to get it done.

All in all, I like it. I dont use it much driving around town, but it was a blessing for the highway and anytime I was towing. Plus its cool to tell people you've got an 8-speed truck. I am still working on an air shifter to eliminate the second stick, but until I get the OBA finished it wont do me any good.:D

Meh, just any pics of the setup really. Do you have a bench seat? I am really interested in this.

Martin

Nah just buckets for this setup. It wouldnt be much of an issue with a bench though. The writeup I followed showed a Ford with a bench and the installer just reshaped the stick and shortened it a tad to make it close to the same feel as stock. I left mine because I'm short and it doesnt get in the way of anything. I also dont have a center console, but if I did, it would have had to move back a few inches due to the front side being so high (higher than the front edge of the seats).

I'll snap some pics this week and post them. I finally got a decent camera (the other reason I didnt take any photos of the build:mad:) and if I can remember my login for photobucket, I'll be able to put up some high quality pics and a ton of them.

I have a Brownie (I know, not the same), but it was pretty simple for the stick. I ended up cutting notches in the stick, bending it, and re welding it. The shifter clears my seat. I got a factory shift boot from the yard, and bent it to fit the hump. It looks as close to factory as something like this can.
