So my blazer has been laid up for a while- blew up a driveshaft u joint, and decided to finally do the jb conversions sye to the 241...
Been driving around the neighborhood in front wheel drive for a couple months to move for steet sweeping...
And one day i jumped in- went to go and nothing went...
I jumped out, and one of my buddys released a front hub- ha ha very funny.

But, i noticed my front driveshaft was spinning, while the truck was in neutral...
???? The rear output was also turning (was in 4wd) and the piece of the old driveshaft i slid into the 241 came plopping out with a bunch of oil (not suprised).

But why is the transfercase getting power when the transmission is in neutral?
I forgot all about this until i raN the truck tonight- got all the jb conversion stuff back in, pumped all the oils back in the trans/ trNsfer, and ran the truck in 2wd (no driveshaft yet)... I was GOING to put the trans in the low gear and take a look at the new rear output while turning to make sure everything was turning true and... I didnt have to put it in gear. With the trAnsmission in neutrAl, the output on the transfer is turning. I climbed under, and i can stop it with my hand, but when i let go it takes off again. its putting out a few foot pounds of torque too- can really feel it just holding onto a 6 inch diameter flange... So whats this all about?
When the driveshafts are on, i can leave the teuck running in neutrAl, without the brake on, and it doesnt go anywhere... But it would seem the rear output of the trans is trying to turn at all times... So ??????

that's just the cold gear lube 'dragging' the gears. normal and expected, IMO

Hmm... Ok. Not worried enough to pull anything apart, but ill definately see if it still does that, or as bad, when warm... And now that i think about it- if the truck idles for a while, its a pain in the ass, and cant shift into low gear (non syncro) without double clutching. If i am rolling, or just came to a stop, I can slot it in no prob. But after it sits and idles for a minute- hard to get into low gear again...

Oh well. Doesnt really affect driveability- this trans is going on roughly 100 thousand miles. Doesnt pop out of any gears and gets me everywhere i want to go...

you could drain it and look at the lube for issues like 'metal flake' or water. that's next best thing to looking inside

I wouldn't worry about it. With truck parked and shaft turning, crawl under the truck and grab the shaft. You'll be able to stop it.

Even sitting on the bench with lube in them, you can get both outputs to turn with it in 2WD.

Alright- ill quit worrying about it.
Lube came out of both the trans and transfer last weekend- both prob only had 5,000 miles on them- clean as far as i remember...
I'll quit worrying about it.
Now im just waiting for the new driveshaft from hi-angle to show up. The blue beast may make the thanksgiving Desert trip 2012!!

Yep we found that out on my Mr.Cleans k10 last week or so. In neutral on the lift, but driveshafts spinning.
