could this be done or would the gear ratios rev the cumming to high and would a half ton dana 44 and 6 lug 14bolt hold up as well as the frame?

Why run a four speed when you can run a NV4500 5 speed? They came in both dodge and chevy and if you get a 92- 94 chevy, they came with 6:34.1 frist gear. The gear ratio in the sm465 is not that far off of the nv4500 but on the highway your going to want that 5th gear. As far as the axles go i would not run 1/2 tons behind a cummins inless your going to keep it bone stock and stay out of the pedal. Hope this helps and if you need anything just email

If you want to run the 4500 you need a Dodge one, or a 96-up GM 4500. The 96-up have the same tranny to bell housing pattern as the Dodge.

If your not going crazy on tire size, (like 33 or under) or plan on driving this on the highway, the axles *might* hold up....

The frame should be fine, just the axles won't hold up to the weight and torque of a 12v.

Also the 4500 you have won't work, need the newer style.
