I got a hydro setup, but i found that 2 of the 4 holes on the bellhousing where the tranny bolts up are in rough shape. I can screw in the bolt, but its kinda hard. Would it be alright to use a helicoil on the bellhosuing?

Helicoil should work, if there is enough material surrounding the hole, I'd go buy a thread insert instead.

Simple. Good hardware store. :)

They are threaded both inside and outside. In your case you'd drill and tap the bell housing to whatever thread size the insert calls for, thread it in, then use the hole as normal. The inserts I've seen all have "solid" thread locking compound on them, so they stay put well.

Their only downside is that they tend to require a fair bit of metal removal, because they are pretty thick metal to retain thread strength.

Keen-serts work best. You enlarge the hole and tap the size required, then thread the Keen-sert in...then tap in the retainer spikes that are part of the insert. Any critcal load threads in aluminum we use Keen-serts.

Check McMaster-Carr for Keen-serts.

I'd chase those holes with a tap first though, prolly just got a boogered thread in there.

JB Weld it...

Would you be able to just bolt and nut it? I like the idea better because I don't like threads in aluminum. I assume it's aluminum, my hydro housing is aluminum, but my linkage housing is cast.
