after reading the thread about the nv4500 blowing up, and people recommending overfilling a little bit, does the SM465 have the same problem? i installed mine the other day and bout a 5 quart jug and used almost all of it, and filled it to right below the fill hole. should i over fill it? do they have the same problem?

the only problem that I no of with the sm465 is that the older ones could pop out of 3rd gear. That was due to a c-clip that couldn't hold a gear in place properly. Servicing has nothing to do with that. Fill it up until it comes out of the hole and your good. If you find yourself filling it often check your t-case for overservicing. When the seal in the t-case adapter goes a lot of the oil will find its way into the t-case.

Overfilling is totally unnecessary, the 465 is probably the toughest transmission ever put into a light duty truck.
