I have a 79 sm465/205. Went to put the front bearing retainer on and there's a gap. Seams like the snap ring on the bearing is to thick. This is the way it was for years and now it won't close up. Never leaked until now. Any ideas?

Thanks

Unless you changed something, all the parts are still correct.
Try pushing the shaft and bearing into the transmission to get the plate to bolt up. Do not use an impact to suck it in

I've tried that. The only thing I can think of is the gasket was thicker. Throw away the old one a couple weeks ago so not sure how thick it was. There's about.040 differents being held up bye the snap ring around the bearing. Going to oreallys to see what they have. The gasket I have now is from Novak. And isn't very thick. Might try the local bearing co. As well. Might have a thinner snap ring.

Thanks for responding

Not sure where you are in Western CO. There's a few guys out that way...

Turns out to be the gaskets or snap rings. Gaskets are to thin or snap rings to thick. Ended up cutting my own gasket out of thicker material. Should do it.
