I think they switched again in 95 or so and the other ones are angled. Not sure which is easier, but I've always wondered if you could get the angled version to work if you mounted it in the same spot that the mechanical clutch rod goes through the firewall. The pushrod is already angled, in that case, I'm just not sure it's the same angle.
If you're putting this in a first gen, it's going to take some experimentation and planning.
