Ok, been working on the m1008 a bunch lately, bleeding the hydro clutch today and I have noticed that my 465 doesnt have neutral. The output is spinning at 1st gear (or low) speeds regardless of whether it is in 1st or neutral. I can shift up through the gears and get a corresponding increase in output speed, clutch in disengages the output (so I know the clutch is fully bled & is releasing), but I have no neutral.

Me and a friend put in a novak rebuild kit (doesnt mess with the top plate/shift forks) does it sound like something we f'd up or does it sound like maybe the shift forks are worn out and engaging something? I have noticed that it doesnt feel like it wants to fully engage 4th when you shift, but not really sure. I dont have driveshafts or anything so it hasnt moved with this setup, so cant be totally sure about the 4th gear thing. Also doesnt seem like it fully seats into 1st. Im leaning towards the shift tower/shift forks, but wanted another opinion.

if you are running and shifting thru the gears with no driveshafts,,,there is not enough parasitic drag to keep the input shaft from turning even with the clutch pushed in........

well with the clutch pushed in, the output will stop spinning, clutch out in any of the gears, it will spin at an rpm consistent with that gear, clutch out in neutral it spins as though its in 1st (low). It is definately being 'driven' b/c put a piece of wood up again the yoke and it just keep on cranking around not even being phased. Yes with the clutch in it will slowly spin around but put a piece of wood against, it will stop dead.

OK....In that case....I agree...something going on inside the gearbox....

pushing in the clutch and stopping the output shaft confirms the disc is releasing ..... and the input shaft stops turning....

it should act the same in neutral....with the clutch engaged...

yeh Im just trying to figure out if its something in the top plate (as I dont have a removable trans tunnel but I could :grind:) or if its in the trans from me and my buddies rebuild :weapon32: and the whole thing needs to come out.......

Well, if there is any way to lock the output, rope or chain, Put it in neutral, EASE out on the clutch. Do not let it engage all the way if the engine starts loading up.

If you can let the clutch out all the way, without the output turning, then you probably have something wrong in the top plate.

If the shifter is engaging a syncro, but not the gear, then it might have enough friction to turn the output against a piece of wood, but it won't be able to stall the engine.

Sounds like it is still partially engaging 1st.

I still vote that it's just drag from the fluid, I've actually had my truck still move on it's own a little in neutral just from the drag of the thick fluid in the trans.

Honestly I'm not sure that you could really screw things up to lose neutral without other major problems happening.

well what I think I am going to do, is forget about the trans for the moment, go ahead and over the long thanksgiving weekend, go ahead and lift the truck (it was a biatch getting the trans on the trans jack with it stock height) and getting atleast the rear d-shaft made (so I can just make sure), and then deal with the trans......
