i get this clanking kinda noise when im driving around in low. when i push the clutch in, i get the clanking noise, almost sounds like there is too much gear lash and the gears are boucing off each other. also, when its shut off and im gear, i can turn the driveshaft and feel play. is this a common problem with these trannies? or would it be more common to be a problem in the 205 case?

I have a little play in my driveshaft with a 465/205, if yours seems excessive it could be worn u joints. The gears are pretty noisy in mine too, not sure about the clanking doesn't sound like a good thing though. 465/205 combo's have a lot of gears to hum, and tend to be quiet noisy, noisy enough to make gm switch to lighter duty yet quieter chain driven cases

well its not much of a whiney or hum noise at all. it only really hums in reverse. i just dont understand. i drove the truck that i got the 465/205 from before i swapped the stuff into mine and i dont remember anything like this at all. i was just woundering if i did something or forgot something when i did the swap. other than the clanking noise, it runs and drives perfect. im just dreading the fact that i may have to pull it back out and rebuild it

Do you have a locker in the rear???
Does it do it while turning?

When I had the SM465 in my truck it did the same thing, when coasting with the clutch in or in nuetral the locker would klang and it would echo through my driveshaft.

Its much less noticable now with the TH400.

hey, that just might be it.. yeah i have a detroit in the 14 bolt, and yes, it wasnt noticeable at all with my 700r before i swapped it for the 465. im just going to run it alittle and see what happends. there still is alittle play in either the tranny or t-case, or both, but i think the locker might be making it sound worse that it actually is?
