I just recentley bought the truck in my sig for a screamin deal. My question is do you guys like this tranny on the street or is it just me that thinks it sucks 1st gear has tons of power then boggs into second

1st as in granny LOW or 1st as in 1st gear?

Most people don't use Low on the street and just drive it as a 3 speed with 1-2-3.

Well, it's an old school truck tranny. Not meant for boulevard cruising at all. Lots of people have commented about the weird gear spacing and odd ways you have to drive to use it.

Don't try to drive it like it's a Camaro and it's just fine. Generally I always used to hold it in whatever gear I was in a little longer than I would with any other tranny, then when I did shift the motor wouldn't be completely out of it's sweet spot when I hit the next gear. It's a 50% drop in rpm's between L and 1, another 50% drop between 1 and 2, then a 35% drop between 2 and 3.

Shifting at 3500 rpm always worked good for me.

This works for me too and I drive mine with 35's-37's on the street. Its not an ideal trans by todays standards but it works none the less.
