sm465 or is this guy just retarded?

IMO NOT a great price for a 465/ 205 combo.

It would be 10 spline so nothing special.

I got a 465/ 205 32 spline combo for 125. Just wait for the right deal. If what you have now works, no sence in jumping in.

well i feel it is a pretty good deal and find for being local. I search and look in everybody yards, and 465's are rare here for some reason. i'm going to check it out tomarrow hopefully.

First, SM420 was last used in 67 and in some cases 68, so its not one of these. Not to mention that they were all 2wd trannies.

2nd, I do not think car 4 speeds were ever available in trucks.

3rd...the reason he thinks its a car tranny is because of GM's blanket RPO codes. The SM465 was an option! It wasnt standard until the 80's, a 3 speed on the column was.

4th...its a SM465.

No, it wouldn't have a car transmission (stock) but the side linkage transmissions are considerably smaller and "look" like a car transmission moreso than the 465.

some weird ones out there...

Wished I would have done the same. Saw an early 80's truck in the 'yard with a 208, and one of the "car" floor shifted transmissions. The transfercase shifter assembly was entirely different, as the section for the shifter boot was next to it, but they were combined as the same piece of plastic.

Bench seat, I6 as I recall. Truck was scrapped shortly after I saw it.

I had a friend with an '81 C10 that came factory with a 5 speed manual, similar to the ones used in a Chevy Monza!..had a 250 six..not sure if GM ever used them behind a 4x4 ,I doubt it..never seen one anyway..

I saw an '82 K-10 in a junkyard with a 6.2 diesel, and a 4 speed overdrive tranny--it was the Mopar style A-833 ,like they used in Volare's and Aspens with the slant 6 motors..had shift levers on the side covers like a muncie or a 3 speed..I wanted to buy that truck, but they stuck it in the crusher before I got back from the bank with the cash!..had a "Goodwrench" GM replacement 6.2 and a NP241 T-case too..I was pissed!..

I've seen a '61 Suburban 3/4 ton 2wd with a factory Clark 5 speed in it,had a 235 cid six banger...not sure if those ever went in 4x4's either, but I do see listings in parts books for them..back then they were all divorced T-cases,so I suppose pretty much anything might work!..that '61 Burb had torsion bar suspension too!--everyone thinks its a "new" idea, but they sucked then, and still do in my opinion..
