I was originally planning to use an SM420 for my next project, but it's been difficult to source one in my area for a good price, not to mention the parts for them are old and obscure.

I'm now planning on using either an NP435 or SM465. Either option would be cheap, and the gearing is nearly identical.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either one that you guys see? The 435 is lighter but when it comes to the Chevy version, the 465 is WAY more common.

I don't know anything about those two transmissions, but I am wondering, is your next project gonna be the buggy in your avatar?

Ha, you're gonna be looking for a year or so. It won't be unveiled until it's at least a roller. ;)

Well i guess i'd go with the NP435 cause it IS *slightly* lower gearing. That'd be the only thing i'd know to make me determine which to use. I've loved every SM465 i've drove also and i'm really loving it in my blazer right now

Yeah...nevermind. Things were not as they seemed once again and I now need a 10 spline 4wd SM465.

Oh well...I guess that just means I need to lose 40 lbs. to make up for the difference between the 465 and the 435.

Well i'd say i have one but i'm not sure how many spline mine in my yard is ....:D

all i will run is a sm465 unless i upgrade to the 6-speed that chevy offered in their diesels from 2001-2008. anyway what is the going price of a sm465 these days?

I'd say around $150 is going rate. I'm getting $100 for them.
You leave my 6spds alone :haha:. I need a spare and they are hard to find and expensive .

well let me know if you find 2 then  and i'll do the same for you. what is the current price for those? i ask cuz alot of guys are shocked that i can find dana 60's for 150-200 bucks so maybe i can find cheap 6speeds too.
