Hello, this may be a dumb question but I pulled the lid off my sm465 to replace the gasket, clean it out and I tapped the vent hole for a better vent fitting, but when I went to put the lid back on and cant get it on properly. I heard that your supposed to put it halfway into reverse but once I get the lid down, i can not shift, its just stuck in reverse. I tried fooling around with the slider clutches and gears but now I have a mess and am getting frustrated does anyone have any advice to the slider locations and such for putting the lid back on?

Put each sliders in neutral, and the reverse idler gear engaged. With the top-plate in neutral. Install it in to where the forks touch the sliders, slide the shifter in to reverse and it *should* drop down.

It will take a couple of tries but eventually you'll get it.

ok, so I finally got it! thanks! but if found that my problem was that in my shifter housing/lid the shifter somehow popped out of place and when I though I was putting it in reverse I was actually doing nothing. once i got that all straightened out it slid in... kindof
