SM465 question

Not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I'll give it a shot. Will an '89 "high tower" aluminum top and forks bolt directly to a early 80's/late 70's (not sure) unit with no other mods needed besides the forks??? Please note this is NOT asking anything about the fit into a truck. I'm specifically wanting to know if the newer aluminum "rearward" covers will go straight to an older trans with no mods, like, say, input shaft change etc.

I haven't personally done it but I remember way back someone doing it and IIRC it is a direct fit but it's the complete top change

Swap no prob . Just tower location further back is all .
