I am getting ready to assemble my driveline....

I am doing a SM465 with the ORD 32 spline output/NP203/NP205.

My question is since I am puttting in a whole new output shaft in the 465 should I just reuse everything or purchase a rebuild kit for $200 somewhere?

Unless you have bad bearings or gears there is no need to buy a "rebuild kit". I've not had a manual trans apart so i don't even know if that trans uses synchros or not but that would be the only other thing to keep an eye for being bad.

I have had mine apart and I since you are taking it all the way down, including disassembly of the cluster gear, go ahead and get a rebuild kit. The synchros are between the 2-3 and the 3-4 gears with 1st being non-synchro. Also so you know that cluster gear has to be stripped down using a press in order to get the bushings and such off. The 20 lb sledge technique will just destroy the parts you want to reuse.

lol thanks for the tip on the non BFH technique. Do yo uhappen to have a link to a good rebuild kit?

I am about to do the same thing. Have the sm465, 10 spline 203 and 205. But was thinking about swapping in the 32 spline ORD output. By chance what did you have to pay for the shaft?

um....I cant remember. nothing outrageous. call Steven at ORD. He's a super cool cat. I have talked to him several times now.

you can re drill the face of a 203 and use a 208 adapter and 32 spline long 465 and not have to get a short shaft fwiw

that sounds like the way to go with how rare some of those parts are getting.

Yeah but the problem with that is this is giong in my FJ40 so space is very limited. I need the shortest drivetrain humanly possible. The stock sm465/NP203 adapter with the ORD 32 spline output is about my only option.

Well I just talked to James co owner at ORD and he said pending all the bearings are still good to just go ahead and use what I got. The 465 is a tank of a tranny and should be good to go.

You'll want to check the forks too...the nylon tends to wear off on high mileage units.
